Try these energy saving tips:

Heating Efficiency Checklist:

Energy Star
recommends servicing your heating system annually, as well as cleaning or replacing air filters regularly.
Choose Energy Star qualified products when upgrading or changing your heating systems.
Switch to Programmable Thermostats.
Insulate walls, ceilings and floors.

outdoor faucets and any areas where there might be leaks.
Buy a hot water insulation kit.

Check your central air conditioner's refrigerant charge and adjust it if necessary to make sure it meets manufacturer specifications.

Before calling for Heating Service:

    1.    Be sure that the oil burner switch is on.
    2.    
Your thermostat should be set above the room temperature.
    3.    Make sure that there is oil in the tank.
    4.    Press the reset button, ONLY ONCE!
    5.    Check to see if the flame comes on.
    6.    If the burner still is not going on, check the circuit breakers or fuses.
    7.    Check the thermostat battery (digital thermostats only).
